The band that made you feel good at low times, made grandma dance at the family function, and united cultures from all over the globe to perform at sold out arenas loses a legend. Earth, Wind, and Fire-founder Maurice White passed away today at his home at the tender age of 74 due to a long-term battle with Parkinsons disease.
With their eclectic sound and soulful harmonies the band went on to win six Grammys, get inducted into the 2000 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and sell more that 90 million copies of their smash hit “September”.
In an Interview with the Associated Press in 2000, White went on to say :
“That was the whole objective, to try to inspire young people to believe in themselves and to follow through on their ideas,” he said. “We’ve touched so many people with these songs.”
So now, when you listen to all the songs you were surrounded with as a child by Earth, Wind, and Fire remember to feel inspired and let their music be your medicine.
My deepest condolences to the White Family. RIP Maurice White.
