Being from a major city has it’s own spiritual connection, and in this particular case Washington D.C. is the city in question. Frequently known as Chocolate City, D.C created it’s very own genre notably known as Go-Go which in turn became the heart of the city. D.C. native GoldLink, named his upcoming release “At What Cost” as an ode to his beloved Go-Go and hometown.
Tonight, GoldLink brought his unique sound to NYC’s meatpacking district in a very intimate album listening party. In partnership with Afropunk, he was able to let his fans into his world and ultimately get the first taste of his latest music. The event was equipped with beautiful ballet dancers in bomber coats and fellow DMV native Kidd Marvel spinning all the 2000 classics. Many audience members seemed to have had a close relationship with the DMV, and according to a friend I made in the bathroom line they “expected moe to win, real talk”. The family like atmosphere allowed the music to have a fluid emotional connection with each audience member.
